Dried beans must be soaked overnight typically (some beans like lentils are an exception) to soften them. They can be stored (dry) for up to a year making them a great choice of stocking the pantry.

Beans are high in protein and fiber which is why they are a staple food item in so many cultures. They also make a great vegetarian alternative to meat.
