The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.

2 pounds German sausage, cut into 1/4" rounds
1 3/4 cup Dr. Pepper (divided use)
4 cans (15 ounce size) pinto beans
1 bottle (15 ounce size) ketchup
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire powder
1 dash Tabasco sauce
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 medium onion, finely chopped
1/2 pound mild Cheddar cheese, grated
1/2 cup unseasoned bread crumbs
directions
Heat skillet over medium heat. Add sausage and 3/4 cup Dr. Pepper. Bring to boil. Cover and lower heat. Continue cooking about 30 minutes, until Dr. Pepper becomes syrupy.
Heat oven to 375 degrees F.
Drain pinto beans and place in a large saucepan. Add 1 cup Dr. Pepper, ketchup, wine vinegar, Worcestershire powder, Tabasco sauce, soy sauce, salt, pepper, garlic powder, mustard and onion. Bring to simmer, stirring occasionally.
Pour into 3-quart buttered baking dish. Stir in sausage mixture and top with cheese and bread crumbs. Bake, covered, for 40 minutes or until cheese is melted and mixture is bubbling.
