Seafood Salads
Pretty much any combination of ingredients can constitute a salad. Salads can be served as a first course or a side dish (or even as a meal in and of themselves). The heartiness of the salad helps determine when, and how much, should be served.
Seafood salads are versatile in that depending on the other ingredients in the recipe they can be served for any of the above mentioned courses. Some recipes are a creamy style salad using mayonnaise, sour cream, yogurt or salad dressing as the base. Others use more of a vinaigrette or Italian dressing.
The seafood used can vary greatly as well. Lobster, shrimp, scallops, and crab are common favorites in these recipes. Seafood can be bought fresh from your grocery store or fish market, or frozen in your supermarket's freezer case. You can also buy some seafood like shrimp and crab in cans (which you'll find near the canned tuna). Imitation lobster and crab is also an option, which is usually found near the seafood or meat counter at your grocery store.
