Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.

This delicious and easy-to-make hot spiced orange drink is perfect for cold winter days. With just a few simple ingredients, you can whip up this flavorful beverage in minutes.
1 jar (10 ounce size) Tang orange drink powder
2 ounces lemonade drink powder
2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
Combine the orange drink powder, lemonade powder, sugar, cinnamon, and cloves and mix well. Store the spiced orange drink mix in an airtight container.
To use the drink mix, combine 2 1/2 teaspoons with 1 cup of boiling water in a heat-proof mug. Mix well and serve immediately. Serve with a cinnamon stick stirrer, if desired.
For a fruity twist, add a splash of cranberry juice when mixing with water.
For a stronger drink, reduce the amount of water slightly.
Steep a few whole cloves and a cinnamon stick in the boiling water for an extra aromatic experience.
If your mixture clumps together after storing, try a food processor to smooth the ingredients.
Package this mix in cute jars as gifts for friends and family during the holidays.
Always taste the drink before serving to adjust the sweetness or spice level as needed.
When stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, the spiced orange drink mix can last for up to six months.
You can adjust the sweetness by increasing or decreasing the amount of sugar or using sugar substitutes.
You can add nutmeg, ginger, or allspice to the mix for additional flavor.
You can use sugar substitutes like stevia or monk fruit sweetener if you're watching your sugar intake, but keep in mind that the sweetness level and taste may vary.
Serve the hot spiced orange drink in heat-proof mugs, and garnish with a cinnamon stick or a slice of orange if desired.
Yes, this drink is suitable for children as it contains non-alcoholic ingredients and can be enjoyed as a festive holiday beverage.
For an adult version, you can add rum, whiskey, or brandy for a warming, boozy twist.
Mixing Bowl (or other container): For combining the orange drink powder, lemonade drink powder, sugar, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves before storing the mixture in an airtight container. You can mix it in the same container you wish to store it but make sure you have enough space for the ingredients to move around and blend well.
Measuring Cups and Spoons: For measuring the sugar and ground spices.
Airtight Container: To store the spiced orange drink mix, keeping it fresh and preventing moisture from affecting the ingredients.
Heat-proof Mug: For mixing the drink mix with boiling water when preparing the hot spiced orange drink.
Spoon or Whisk: For stirring the drink mix into boiling water until well combined.
Cinnamon Roll: Pair this hot spiced orange drink with warm cinnamon rolls for a sweet and comforting combination. The cinnamon in both the drink and the rolls ties everything together
Spiced Apple Cider: Instead of boiling water, use warm apple cider as the base of the drink (add the drink mix to taste, starting with 1 teaspoon) for a heartier fall beverage.
Gingersnap Cookies: Serve a few gingersnap cookies alongside the drink to bring in a contrasting texture.
Roasted Chestnuts: Offer roasted chestnuts as a snack with the drink. The earthy, nutty flavor of chestnuts pairs well with the spices in the drink.
Mini Charcuterie Board: Create a mini charcuterie board with soft cheeses, dried fruits, and nuts. The sweetness of the fruits and creamy texture of the cheese will balance the spiced drink.
Spiced Muffins: Bake some spiced muffins or even orange-flavored muffins to serve with the drink. The aromatic spices will resonate well with the drink's flavors, making for a nice pairing during brunch or tea time.
Candied Citrus Peel: Offer candied citrus peels as a snack or garnish.
Pecan Pie: Enjoy a slice of boozy pecan pie with the hot spiced orange drink. The buttery richness of the pie, with its nutty flavor, complements the warming spices and orange notes.

Took a bit of doing but I managed to find sugar-free versions of the orange and lemonade drink mixes (in bulk, single serve was easy but that would have taken too much). I also used splenda in place of sugar. It was really good and guilt-free! I do strict keto right now but have been missing sweet drinks so this fit the bill perfectly.

A bit heavy on the cloves for my tastes but otherwise easy to make and a nice drink when you have a head cold.

This yummy hot drink was perfect! I made this as Teacher gifts for Valentine's Day using heart shaped cinnamon candies. I packaged it in a pretty glass jar and printed the recipe card which I tied around the lid of the jar with a ribbon. I also gave each Teacher a pretty clear glass mug that really adds to the ambiance when drinking this delicious, heartwarming drink! They really enjoyed it. Thanks for the recipe, Susan!
