Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.

This cinnamon-apple sipper is infused with warming flavor from whole spices, and would work perfectly with a splash of whiskey or rum.

1 quart unsweetened apple juice
1 cup water
2 whole cloves
2 whole allspice
1 stick cinnamon
Add the apple juice and water to an electric percolator, large saucepan, or crock pot. If using a percolator, place the spices in the basket. If using a saucepan or crock pot, place the spices in cheesecloth and tie shut with kitchen twine. Place in the liquid.
If using the percolator, run through a cycle. If using a saucepan, heat over low heat until simmering. Simmer for 10 minutes. If using a crock pot, heat on high heat for 30-60 minutes or until hot. Remove the spices before serving.
