This recipe for baked beans is always a hit. They are extra hearty because of the ground beef and the homemade barbecue sauce has just the right balance of flavors. Not too tangy, not too sweet. Just delicious.

ingredients

1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 green bell pepper, seeded and chopped
1 can (16 ounce size) pork and beans
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 cup ketchup
1 dash Worcestershire sauce
1 cup brown sugar

directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, onion, and bell pepper. Cook, stirring frequently, until the beef is browned and the vegetables are soft. Drain off any excess grease.

Add the pork and beans, mustard, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar to the skillet. Mix well.

Transfer the mixture to a large baking dish (or two smaller ones). Place in the oven and bake at 350 degrees F for 1 hour or until bubbly in the middle.

I made this recipe and it went over well. My daughter is a very picky eater, and she even loved it. I will most definitely be making this again.

  2. Masterchief23 REVIEW:

The first time I made this recipe I found it a little on the sweet side so next time I used half ketchup and half plain tomato sauce. I think maybe the baked beans I used were sweet to begin with but we don't have many brands available where I live. It cooked up nicely and I will make again.

  3. blazer REVIEW:

Great recipe! Made this for a family reunion (tripled the recipe) and there wasn't a drop left and everyone asked for the recipe. Best baked beans that I think I've had. I liked that it was beefy. I think you could make the beans the day before and reheat them quite easily too. Good for large groups.

  4. jtuck004 REVIEW:

Great recipe. I lowered the sugar to 1/4 cup packed, and 3/4 cup ketchup (all I had). Was great, and I will make it again. Thank you for your work

  5. Guest Foodie REVIEW:

I make this recipe for any bbq or outdoor party we have and it is always gone. I don't bake it though, I make it as directed and then put it in my crock pot.

  6. Guest Foodie REVIEW:

I made this tonight because I wanted something EASY to try. The recipie was easy & inexpensive. My one criticism would be that I thought it was too sweet. Could the sugar content be reduced?

I just made this for Christmas Eve since we are having a buffet with ham. It turned out great! I used Bush's maple syrup and bacon canned beans which added a nice maple flavor to it. And, it was really easy to make. Highly recommend this recipe.

    • We can definitely vouch for this recipe, we've been making it for years! And you can't beat how easy it is to make.
