Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.

A quick pan-sear helps keep the moisture in these pork chops, and baking them covered in gravy makes them extra tender.
oil
1 cup all-purpose flour
salt and pepper, to taste
cayenne pepper, to taste
garlic powder, to taste
onion powder, to taste
4 pork chops, excess fat trimmed
2 packets brown gravy mix
5 whole button mushrooms, thinly sliced
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Heat a thin layer of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Combine the flour with salt, pepper, cayenne, garlic powder, and onion powder as desired. Place in a shallow dish.
Dredge the pork chops in the flour mixture then place in the hot oil. Cook, turning once, until brown on both sides. Remove from the skillet and place in a baking dish.
Prepare the gravy as directed on the package. Add the sliced mushrooms to the baking dish. Pour the gravy over the pork chops and mushrooms.
Cover the baking dish with foil and bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes or until the pork chops are tender and cooked through. Serve the fried pork chops hot with the gravy.

Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

I just made this and my husband and I both liked it. It was very easy to put it together. I added what spices that I liked to the flour including what was listed. I just wasn't sure what the onion powder was to be used for since it was listed last and wasn't included in the directions. I just added a little of the onion powder to the gravy mix.
