Ham Loaf
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup sifted flour
3 eggs
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
3/4 cup milk
5 ounces grated Gruyere cheese
1/2 pound cooked ham diced in small cubes
black pepper, to taste
Bechamel Sauce
1/4 cup melted butter
1/2 cup flour
2 cups milk
1/2 onion, pricked with cloves
1 tablespoon salt
1 pinch cayenne pepper
1 pinch nutmeg
1/4 cup cream
1 teaspoon butter
directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Mix together baking powder end flour. Add the eggs, the oil and the milk, mix well. Add the cheese cubes and the ham, mix well, check the seasoning. Cover the bottom of a rectangular mold with buttered wax paper and pour in the mixture. Let rest 10 minutes, bake in oven about 45 minutes.
Bechamel Sauce preparation: In a thick saucepan, melt butter on low heat and incorporate the flour with a wooden spoon. Cook this mixture very slowly 2-3 minutes while mixing constantly. Gradually add the milk while mixing with a whisk, add the onion that has been pricked with the cloves. Season and let cook very gently 15-20 minutes. while mixing to obtain a smooth sauce. Add the cream and the butter, mix well.
Accompany the ham with the Bechamel Sauce.
