This is a flavorful barbecue sauce with hints of cinnamon and cloves.
1 small onion, minced
1 can (8 ounce size) tomato sauce
2 cups water
1/4 cup wine vinegar
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons paprika
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
Combine all the ingredients in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil then reduce the heat to a simmer. Let simmer for 20 minutes or until it reaches the desired consistency.
Use the barbecue sauce immediately or let cool then refrigerate in a covered container for up to 1 week.

Made more than I needed at this time. Can it be frozen for later?
Yes, it can. The consistency may change a bit but it can be frozen in an airtight container for up to 2-3 months.

This is good, but I think it really didn't need so much water. It took a lot longer to boil down to a thicker consistency. I also added a little Truvia to balance out the chili powder.

I needed barbecue sauce for a recipe and had forgotten to buy some. This worked really well. I might never need to buy barbecue sauce again!
