1 teaspoon minced garlic
2 teaspoons five spice powder
1 teaspoon ground star anise
1 1/2 cup sugar

Add the ginger, garlic, five spice powder, star anise, and sugar and mix well until the sugar is dissolved.

Use immediately or store in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

recipe tips

For a spicier kick, add a dash of sriracha or chili paste to the sauce.

Adjust the consistency of the sauce by adding more water for a thinner sauce or simmering it longer for a thicker glaze.

Marinate meats in this BBQ sauce for 4-8 hours.

This sauce also works well as a baste for grilled vegetables.
