1/2 cup margarine
1 bottle (32 ounce size) ketchup
1 box dark brown sugar
1 large onion, chopped
1 tablespoon granulated garlic
2 cans tomato paste
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/2 cup honey
1 can (12 ounce size) Dr. Pepper
hot sauce, to taste, optional
Combine the margarine, ketchup, brown sugar, and onion in a large saucepan or stockpot over medium-high heat.
Cook, stirring, until the sugar dissolves.
Stir in the garlic, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, honey, and Dr. Pepper. Add the hot sauce if desired. Mix well. Bring the mixture to a boil then lower the heat to a simmer. Let cook for 10 minutes, stirring frequently.
Remove the sauce from the heat and let cool. Use immediately or transfer to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
