Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

I found this easy to make and quick. The recipe made more then I expected and fed a family of 3 grown men just fine. I did have trouble with the balls wanting to fall apart as I cooked them so I think next time I will add a spoon or so of breadcrumbs to hold it together, but hopefully not affect the taste. Tastes like a cross between shephards pie and meatloaf. I served with peas and it was great. even the picky eater liked it.
