ingredients
12 pounds whole bone-in ham
Rye Bread Dough
2 cups warm water
4 tablespoons molasses
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons salt
4 cups flour
3 cups rye flour
6 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
4 tablespoons yeast
2 tablespoons caraway seeds
directions
Knead all ingredients together (can be done in bread machine but do not let it rise).
After the dough is thoroughly mixed, seal the ham with the dough by spreading a 1/2 inch layer of dough around entire ham.
Place ham in a preheated 325 degrees F oven. Cook 10 to 12 minutes for each pound of ham.
Remove the bread after cooking and allow the ham to cool 20 minutes before slicing.

Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.

Tried this a very long time ago and it is great way to do a ham. Grease is left in bread dough and ham is tender and juicy. No big mess to clean up or greasy baking pan. I do coat with honey glaze after removing bread dough, but rye dough imparts a great flavor by itself. Good diabetic
