This almost maple syrup is still way closer than most store-bought syrups. It's made with actual sugar instead of corn syrup, and the maple flavoring makes it pretty darn good for pouring over a tall stack of flapjacks.

ingredients

2 cups sugar
1/2 teaspoon maple flavoring
1 cup boiling water

directions

Combine the sugar and maple flavoring in a heat-proof bowl. Add the boiling water to the bowl and stir until the sugar is dissolved.

Pour the syrup into jars with lids. Let cool completely then cover and store in the refrigerator until ready to use.
