Beer makes batters better, meat more tender, and sauces more flavorful.

If you've always been partial to pralines & cream at the ice cream parlor, this syrup is right up your ally. Drizzle it on waffles, use it to top off sundaes, or just pour it over plain vanilla ice cream.

2 cups dark corn syrup
1/3 cup dark brown sugar
1/2 cup water
1 cup pecan pieces
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Combine the corn syrup, brown sugar, and water in a heavy saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a full boil and let boil for 1 minute exactly.
Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the pecan pieces and vanilla. Mix well. Let cool slightly.
The syrup can be used immediately, or divide the mixture between heated pint-sized glass jars, leaving 1/4-inch headspace. Screw on the lids and process the jars in a hot water bath for 10 minutes.
Carefully remove the jars and let cool.

Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

I thought I would try my hand at making home made syrup. This recipe looked easy enough. It was a nice syrup which I used on homemade waffles. Yummy.
