Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

cook's notes
I was attracted to this beautiful bright green liquid in an old fashioned bottle. It was this Green Apple French soda. I wanted to showcase it's beautiful color so I paired it with the Apple Pucker. The soda is not sweet so that's why I added the simple syrup. The wonder crisp apple taste is a very welcome change for the summer.
*For Simple Syrup combine 1 cup water and 1 cup white sugar in a small pan. Over medium heat stir until sugar is dissolved. Cool and store in an airtight container in the fridge. I always keep this around for when a drink idea pops into my head.

Not to be confused with evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk is very sweet (and very sticky) and used primarily in desserts.
