Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.

Fresh, homemade tomato sauce makes a world of a difference in pastas, pizzas, and everything in between. A real tomato sauce takes all day to make, so just let the crockpot do the work for you.

4 cups fresh tomatoes, peeled, seeded, and finely chopped
1 medium onion, finely minced
1 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon sugar
6 ounces tomato paste
3 cloves garlic, crushed
Combine the ingredients in the crock pot and mix well.
Cover the crock pot and cook on low for 6-8 hours or until the tomatoes are completely soft.
To store the tomato sauce, let cool completely then place in an airtight container and keep in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Since canned tomatoes are softer than fresh, you will need to reduce the cooking time. Start checking them for doneness after about 4 hours.

Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

The recipe is really a nobrainer but it's nice because you don't have to stir. Also I don't add the paste, I just leave the lid ajar during part of the time so it reduces down. Good flavor.
