The Manhattan is a cocktail almost as well known as its namesake city, but how to make one properly is less common knowledge. Add it to your drink arsenal, it's bound to impress.

3/4 ounce sweet vermouth
2 1/2 ounces bourbon whiskey
1 dash bitters
3 ice cubes
1 orange twist
1 maraschino cherry
Combine the vermouth, bourbon, bitters, and ice in a cocktail shaker. Stir, do not shake, to mix.
Rub the orange peel over the rim of a cocktail glass. Place the cherry in the bottom. Strain the cocktail into the glass. Serve immediately.
