Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

ingredients
1 pound ground turkey breast
2 tablespoons onion, chopped finely
4 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 tablespoon sage
1/2 tablespoon thyme
1/4 tablespoon allspice
1/2 tablespoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper, or to taste
1/2 tablespoon black pepper
directions
Mix all ingredients together.
Using a 1/4 measuring cup, scoop out the sausage to make balls. Place each ball between 2 pieces of wax paper and flatten with the underside of a plate to desired thickness (they cook faster).
