Not to be confused with evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk is very sweet (and very sticky) and used primarily in desserts.

Have delicious apple pie filling on hand any time you have the urge to bake. Homemade is so much better than store bought. Don't have a canner? You can freeze the pie filling instead!
8 cups water
6 cups white sugar
1 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup margarine or butter
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon allspice
6 quarts sliced apples
Combine the water, sugar, cornstarch, butter, cinnamon, and allspice in a Dutch oven. Bring to a boil and stir until thickened.
Place the sliced apples in quart-sized jars, filling them each half full. Cover the apples in each jar with the syrup mixture. Fill jars with remaining apples and syrup.
Cook the jars in a pressure canner for 10 minutes.
To use the pie filling, place the contents of one jar in an unbaked pie shell. Add a top crust or crumble topping if desired. Bake at 350 degrees F until pie is done.
