The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.
Baked Garlic Potato Slices

ingredients
3 medium (6 ounce size) potatoes, scrubbed (not peeled) and thinly sliced
1/4 cup butter
1 medium onion, chopped
1 teaspoon minced garlic, or to taste
salt and pepper, to taste
directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Lightly grease a baking dish.
Layer the potato slices in the baking dish.
Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook, stirring, for 4-5 minutes or until the onion is softened. Pour the mixture over the potato slices.
Sprinkle the potatoes with salt and pepper. Cover the pan with aluminum foil and bake for 35-40 minutes or until the potatoes are tender.
Serve hot.
