Italian Sausage With Pesto And Pasta

ingredients
1/2 cup basil leaves, packed
1/4 cup walnut pieces, toasted & divided, PLUS"PLUS" means this ingredient in addition to the one on the next line, often with divided uses
2 tablespoons walnut pieces, toasted & divided
2 cloves garlic, peeled
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
5 tablespoons olive oil
1 package (12 ounce size) uncooked linguine
1 pound cooked Italian sausage links, sliced
2 cups broccoli florets
directions
Combine basil, 1/4 cup walnuts and garlic in food processor or blender container; process until smooth. Add cheese. With machine running, pour oil through feed tube and process until ingredients are well blended; set aside.
Prepare pasta according to package directions. During last 2 minutes of cooking, add sausage and broccoli to pasta; drain.
Combine pasta mixture with pesto. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Garnish with remaining walnuts.

A nice change from a red-sauced pasta dish. Cook the sausage as desired (grilled, pan-fried, etc). If you don't have walnuts you can use pine nuts. The only thing we changed is that we doubled the amount of the pesto (it didn't seem to be enough after we first made it). We ended up using most of it, 1 1/2 times the amount would have been about perfect. You can use other pasta such as rotini or penne if desired.
