INGREDIENTS:

1 pound ground beef
1 tablespoon oil
3/4 cup chopped onion
1 teaspoon salt
pepper, to taste
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon oregano
1/8 teaspoon ground thyme
1/2 small bay leaf
2 cups canned tomatoes
1 can cream of mushroom soup
2 cups cooked rice
American cheese, cut in 1/2 inch strips


DIRECTIONS:

Brown beef in oil. Add onion; cook over medium heat until tender. Stir in seasonings, tomatoes, soup and rice. Simmer 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Spoon into baking dish, top with cheese strips. Broil until cheese melts.
