Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

- add review
- #56175

ingredients
4 ham steaks
2 teaspoons onion, finely chopped
1 teaspoon brown sugar
2 teaspoons irish whiskey
1 tablespoon flour
1 tablespoon butter, melted
3/4 cup water or stock
salt and pepper, to taste
directions
Brush ham steaks with melted butter. Snip fat to prevent curling, and grill for 7-8 minutes each side.
For Sauce: Saute onions in remainder of butter until cooked. Remove from heat and stir in flour gradually. Add water or stock. Return to heat. Add sugar and bring to the boil. Simmer gently for about 2 minutes to cook flour.
If sauce seems a little thick, add more water or stock. Add whiskey and season to taste. Place ham steaks on a serving platter and pour on sauce.

What's the secret ingredient in these cakes? Pudding mix. It not only adds flavor but it gives the cake a richer, creamier texture. No one will know your secret ingredient!
It may look like a sad little package shoved in the back of your freezer, but frozen spinach actually has a lot of culinary uses (and some may surprise you).

Being a fan of the TGI Friday Jack Daniels Sauces. thought I would give this a try. Whiel easy to put together, I probably will not make again.

The amount of sauce the recipe makes isn't quite enough (in our opinion) for four ham steaks. The sauce is good, the whiskey isn't over powering and the brown sugar adds a nice balance to it.
