ingredients

Hush Puppy Crust

1 1/3 cup pie crust mix
2/3 cup hush puppy mix
4 tablespoons cold water, more as needed

Pizza Mix

2 cups cooked, flaked catfish
1 1/2 cup grated Cheddar or American cheese
1/4 cup hush puppy mix
1 1/2 teaspoon butter, softened

Tartar Topping

1 can (10.75 ounce size) cream of onion soup
1/3 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup finely chopped dill pickle
2 tablespoons chopped pimento

directions

For the crust: In medium mixing bowl, combine pie crust mix and hush puppy mix. Add water gradually until mixture clings together and can be rolled into ball. With fingertips, press dough into a lightly greased 12-inch pizza pan.

Prepare the Tartar Topping by combining all ingredients; blend well.

Prepare the pizza: Sprinkle half the cheese over the hush puppy crust; place the flaked fish over the cheese. Pour the Tartar Topping over the fish and sprinkle with remaining cheese.

Combine hush puppy mix and butter; sprinkle over top of cheese.

Bake in a hot 400 degrees F oven for 20 to 22 minutes. Serve hot.

  1. impressed REVIEW:

I'll be honest, I tried this pizza purely because it sounded so odd and I just had to see what kind of trainwreck it would turn out to be. My apologies for assuming it wouldn't work. The crust was good but not really pizza-ish so that might throw some people off. I'm wondering if one could use the hush puppy mix with a different dough (or maybe just use a regular crust). I really did like the hush puppy crispy topping though. This was sort of like eating a full fish fry menu but in pizza form. I have to say, I didn't think I'd be coming back here raving about it, but this is a fun and unique pizza recipe. If you are adventurous (and like catfish) then I can highly recommend you try this for something different. Thank you for coming up with this unique combo!
