1 package onion soup mix
1/4 cup water

In a bowl, combine the onion soup mix, water, and cream of mushroom soup until well blended. Pour over the round steak.

Serve the steak with the gravy from the crock pot over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.

crock pot notes

Crock pots/slow cookers all heat differently. There is no standard among manufacturers. Cooking times are suggested guidelines based on our testing. Please adjust cooking times and temps to work with your brand and model of slow cooker.

recipe tips

For a richer flavor, add a splash of Worcestershire sauce or red wine to the sauce.

If the gravy is too thin, you can thicken it with a cornstarch slurry before serving.

To add a kick of heat, you can sprinkle some crushed red pepper flakes or hot sauce over the Swiss steak before serving.

To prevent the steak from drying out, make sure the crock pot lid is on firmly so it doesn't let steam escape.

  1. Maura REVIEW:

We're retired, empty-nesters and this recipe is perfect for the two of us. I love cooking it in the crock pot because it's so tender. I add a pinch of garlic powder and use seasoned salt but that's the only change I make. We serve it with either egg noodles or on a bed of mashed potatoes.

I found this to be too salty. Good flavor but just too salty. I fixed it by adding some heavy cream to the gravy to balance it out so we could eat it. Served over mashed pottaoes. Maybe the low sodium soup next time or use less of the onion soup mix.

I loved this recipe. It was easy and so tasty I have made it several times over noodles and shared it w/3 of my friends who have liked it VERY MUCH.

  4. Guest Foodie REVIEW:

Very simple, very tender and very tasty! To save time, I cooked in a covered casserole dish at 325 for 2 hours. Served over white rice with mixed veggies on the side. Definitely a keeper!

  5. diver REVIEW:

I doubled up on the top round steak and cut into bite size pieces. You can't hardly cook this to long on the low setting. Great on a couple baked potatoes.
