If you're looking for a twist on iced tea this summer, Thai green tea with sweetened condensed milk is the answer.

serves/makes:

ready in:
  1-2 hrs

ingredients

2 cups water
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
4 green tea bags
1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk

directions

Add the water to a saucepan along with the allspice. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and let simmer for 5 minutes.

Add the tea bags, cover the pan, and remove from the heat. Let the tea steep for 10 minutes.

Strain the tea through cheesecloth into a container. Place in the refrigerator and let chill completely.

Just before serving, stir the sweetened condensed milk into the iced green tea.

recipe tips

Use quality green tea for the best results.

Be careful not to boil the green tea, as it can become bitter. The water should just be at a simmer.

Cool the tea completely before adding the sweetened condensed milk.

Serve over ice for a refreshing summer drink.

Experiment with different ratios of tea to milk to find the flavor you like.

common recipe questions

Can I use loose green tea instead of tea bags?

Yes, you can use loose green tea. Use about 1 teaspoon of loose tea per cup of water.

Is the allspice necessary?

The allspice adds a unique flavor, but you can omit it or substitute it with another spice like cardamom.

Sweetened condensed milk gives the tea its characteristic sweetness and creaminess, but you can use other sweeteners and thickened milk or cream.

How do I know when the tea is properly steeped?

Green tea typically steeps for 3-5 minutes, but for this recipe, a longer steeping time helps intensify the flavors.

How should I store leftover tea?

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Can I prepare this tea ahead of time?
