I have been making my own iced tea for over 40 yrs. I make mine as my Mom did. Take a quart of cold water. Stop it just shy of a boil. Introduce 10 tea bags (Mom preferred Red Rose). Leave the bags in at least 15 minutes. Remove the bags, then add about 1 cup sugar. Bring the tea up to a boil, stir til sugar dissolves. Add to 1 gallon container, then add 3 qt cold water, stir. Refrigerate before serving. Top with a slice of citrus. Adjust the number of tea bags and amount of sugar to your taste. Remember not to use boiling water to brew tea, as the bitter elements of tea are released. If you like strong tea, let your bags steep a bit longer. If you are lucky enough to find one, get a Mr Coffee Iced Tea maker. It is an invaluable kitchen appliance.
