Chili Cheese Steak

3 teaspoons flour
2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 teaspoons chili powder
2 pounds round steak, 1 inch thick, cut up
1/4 cup shortening
2 cups chopped onion
1 can (16 ounce size) whole tomatoes
1 package (4 ounce size) shredded Cheddar cheese
directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Combine flour, salt, chili powder and pepper.
Trim any excess fat from meat, sprinkle mixture into meat, sprinkle mixture into meat and pound into it. Turn and repeat on the other side.
In large skillet in hot shortening brown meat well on both sides; remove meat from skillet.
In drippings brown onions; stir in remaining flour mixture.
In large shallow casserole spoon onion mixture. Arrange steaks on top; then add tomatoes and their liquid. Cover and bake 1 1/2 hours or until tender. Spoon any fat from casserole. Sprinkle steaks with cheese, heat 5 minutes or until cheese melts.
Serve as is or over rice.
