The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.

Maple syrup is balanced in flavor with balsamic vinegar in this marinated grilled pork chop recipe.

1/4 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1/2 teaspoon coarse black pepper
4 pork chops (1 1/2-inches thick)
Combine the maple syrup, vinegar, and black pepper in a zip-top plastic bag. Mix well.
Place the pork chops in the bag, press out any excess air, and seal the bag. Turn the bag to coat the pork chops in the maple marinade. Place the bag in the refrigerator and marinate for 2 hours.
Preheat the grill to medium-high heat (about 425 degrees F). Lightly oil the grill grates.
Remove the pork chops from the marinade and discard the marinade. Place the pork chops on the grill and cook for 6-7 minutes per side or until they reach 160 degrees F on a meat thermometer.
Remove the pork chops from the grill and loosely cover with foil. Let the pork rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.
This iconic whiskey is a "Jack of all trades" when it comes to cooking. Toss it in some pasta, as a savory dipping sauce, and even bake it into something sweet.
