Beer makes batters better, meat more tender, and sauces more flavorful.

This tasty barbecue sauce uses tomato juice as the base ingredient. The result is a fresher, less smoky tomato flavor.

1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 tablespoons paprika
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 cup cider vinegar
2 teaspoons dry mustard
2 cups tomato juice
2 bay leaves
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1 cup water
Combine all the ingredients in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently, then reduce the heat to a simmer. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 30 minutes or until the sauce is thickened.
Remove the bay leaves. Store the tomato juice barbecue sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 10-14 days.

Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

I will make this again, but j will cut the salt in 1/2. Good flavor, but too salty.
