Had a surplus of catalina dressing and needed an easy bbq sauce recipe. Turned out great. Only change, I would use less oil next time.

My dad, in Marion, Ohio, who loved to BBQ in the '60s and '70s, made an outrageous home made BBQ sauce with Catalina Salad Dressing as a base. He got the recipe from somebody at work and we grew up on that BBQ sauce. It was great and this recipe appears to be everything that I remember about him make his, except he did not have chopped onions. It was a couple of shakes of onion powder, one shake of garlic powder, and a sprinkle of cinnamon, because they dissolve in the sauce instead of making it chunky as what chopped onions would do.
