Think of the Michelada cocktail as tasting like a Mexican bloody Mary. The ingredients include tomato juice, Mexican beer, and lots of spices and seasonings. Because it's only made with beer, it doesn't have a high alcohol content (but please drink responsibly!). A good Mexican lager is best in this recipe but you can use other beer in a pinch.
serves/makes:
ready in: under 30 minutes
ingredients
1 teaspoon kosher salt 1 teaspoon chili powder 1 lime wedge 2 ounces tomato juice 1 ounce fresh lime juice 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce 1/4 teaspoon hot sauce 2 dashes Maggi seasoning 1 bottle (12 ounce size) Mexican lager, well chilled 1 pickled jalapeno or lime wedge, to garnish
directions
Combine the salt and chili powder and place on a plate or flat dish.
Run the cut edge of the lime around the rim of a beer glass or highball glass. Turn the glass upside down and evenly dip the rim into the chili-salt mixture. Set aside.
Combine the tomato juice, lime juice, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, Maggi seasoning, and beer in the salt-rimmed glass and gently stir to combine. You can also serve this on the rocks.
Garnish with a pickled jalapeno or lime wedge if desired and serve immediately.
Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.
Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.
