Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

This is a surprising good dessert. Very easy and a make ahead. I have had this recipe for a number of years and every time I made it I always got compliments. I usually add a few extra maraschino cherries just because I like them.
