ingredients

1 can (8 ounce size) pitted dark sweet cherries in light syrup, undrained
1 package (4-serving size) sugar free cherry flavored gelatin
3/4 cup boiling water
ice cubes
2 tablespoons chopped toasted almonds
1 cup thawed lite whipped topping

directions

Drain cherries, reserving syrup. If necessary, add enough water to reserved syrup to measure 1/2 cup. Cut cherries into quarters.

Completely dissolve gelatin in boiling water. Combine measured syrup and enough ice to measure 1 1/4 cups. Add to gelatin and stir until slightly thickened. Remove any unmelted ice. Chill until thickened.

Measure 1 1/4 cups gelatin. Stir in half the cherries and half the nuts. Set aside.

Gently stir whipped topping into remaining gelatin. Add remaining cherries and nuts. Spoon into dessert glasses.

Chill until set but not firm, about 15 minutes. Top with clear gelatin mixture. Chill until set, about another hour.
