Versatile and delicious, these turkey apple burgers offer a mouthwatering blend of savory and slightly sweet flavors, ideal for any occasion.
1 pound ground turkey
1 large beaten egg
1 cup finely crushed soda crackers
2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 red apple, unpeeled, finely diced
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
salt and pepper to taste
Preheat the broiler.
Combine the turkey, egg, soda crackers, onion, garlic, apple, parsley, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Mix thoroughly but do not over work the turkey mixture.
Form the turkey apple mixture into burger patties and place on a broiler pan. Place the pan in the oven and broil 4 inches from the heat source for about 6 minutes per side or until cooked through.
The turkey apple burgers can also be grilled or pan fried, if desired.
Serve the burgers on buns with desired condiments.
Avoid over-mixing the turkey mixture to keep the burgers tender.
If the mixture is too wet, add a little more crushed soda crackers or breadcrumbs.
Let the patties rest for a few minutes after forming. Even better if you can let them rest in the refrigerator.
Try adding a dash of Worcestershire sauce or Dijon mustard to the mixture.
Oil the broiler pan or grill grates well to prevent sticking.
Flip the burgers gently to keep them from falling apart.
Serve with lettuce, tomato, and onion for a classic burger setup.
Try adding different herbs like thyme or sage.
Always wash your hands and surfaces thoroughly after handling raw turkey.
Serve on whole wheat buns for a healthier option.
A firm, slightly tart apple like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp is ideal for a good balance of sweetness and texture.
Yes, breadcrumbs can be used as a substitute in the same quantity.
Turkey burgers should be cooked to an internal temperature of 165 degrees F.
Yes, you can form the patties and refrigerate them for a few hours before cooking.
Dried parsley can be used; use about 1 teaspoon as it's more concentrated in flavor.
Form the patties about 3/4-inch thick for even cooking.
Yes, grill them over medium heat for about 5-6 minutes per side.
Mustard, mayonnaise, cranberry sauce, or a slice of cheese like cheddar or Swiss will go well with the burgers.

Ground turkey can often be dry but the apple in these burgers I think are what keep them moist. A good healthy alternative to regular burgers. I serve them with some chutney spread on them.

This is a good recipe. I added some poultry seasoning and a little less onion but added 1/2 teaspoon onion salt. I also added a touch of Thyme. Really tasty and will make again.
