The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.


A slightly spicy salt-based seasoning that works well with a variety of foods.
1 tablespoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1 1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon red pepper
3/4 teaspoon black pepper
3/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon ground bay leaves
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
Combine all ingredients. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 6 months.
Use with seafood, chicken, beef, or vegetables.

This is a great all purpose seasoning. I made some as a gift and had a bit extra left over to use for myself. I was really delighted with the slightly spicy undertone. I am making another jar of this today for our kitchen.

I skipped the garlic powder but left everything else the same and use it on chicken and veggies. good recipe.

I just ran out and needed a guide to make my own, this was a good one, although of course I did my own thing by altering here and there. Great general base though.

This really is a good all-purpose seasoning to keep on hand. I've found myself using it in a variety of dishes from seasoning chicken to spicing up potatoes.

Decided to try this recipe since it only made a small amount and I wouldn't be really wasting ingredients if it didn't turn out. I've been using it on everything. It really is a good all-purpose spice as it works on both meats and veggies and seafood all very well.
