The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.

2 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1 lemon, juiced
3/4 teaspoon fresh grated lemon peel
1 1/2 teaspoon fresh grated orange peel
3 tablespoons ginger liqueur
2 tablespoons brandy
Combine the butter and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar is dissolved. Add the lemon juice, lemon peel, and orange peel. Mix well and bring to a boil, stirring frequently.
Remove the pan from the heat and let stand for one minute. Stir in the ginger liqueur and brandy. Mix well then let stand for 2 more minutes before serving. Serve over pancakes, waffles, crepes, or cake.
If you don't have ginger liqueur, you can substitute a ginger infused syrup or ginger juice.
