Pesto Recipes
Pesto means "pounded" in Italian because the traditional way of making pesto is with a mortar and pestle. Basic ingredients include fresh basil leaves, raw garlic, pine nuts and parmesan cheese. Olive oil is added until the right consistency is achieved. You can also use a food processor, slowly adding the oil after the other ingredients are mixed.
Homemade pesto can be used as a dipping sauce, spread on pizza dough in place of a tomato-based sauce, tossed with pasta, or used as a condiment on grilled meats like steak or chicken.
