Drunken Strawberries with Sour Cream

ingredients
2 pints strawberries, washed and cut in quarters
2 cups fruity red wine, such as a Beaujolais
3 tablespoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon lemon zest
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 cup sour cream
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 scraped vanilla bean
OR
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
directions
Mix wine, sugar, salt, zest and pepper. Add strawberries, cover with plastic wrap and macerate in refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
Mix together sour cream, sugar and vanilla.
Serve strawberries in individual bowls and a dollop of sour cream.
* You can reserve the macerating liquid and cook it down on low heat for a nice sauce for ice cream later.
