This iconic whiskey is a "Jack of all trades" when it comes to cooking. Toss it in some pasta, as a savory dipping sauce, and even bake it into something sweet.

Everybody knows the simple screwdriver cocktail, but it'll be worth your while to turn the screwdriver into a touchdown. Thanks to the balance of tart lemon and sweet sugar, you can add a couple extra splashes of vodka, tequila, or your spirit of choice without making the drink taste too strong.

3 cups chilled orange juice
1 1/3 cup rum, tequila, or vodka
1 cup lemon juice
1/2 cup sugar
ice
Combine the orange juice, alcohol, lemon juice, and sugar in a large pitcher. Stir well to dissolve the sugar.
Fill tall glasses with ice. Pour the punch over the ice and serve immediately.

Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.
A can of cream of mushroom soup can be a real dinner saver. It works great in casseroles and can turn into a sauce or gravy in a pinch.
