common recipe questions

Can I use a different type of alcohol instead of rum?

Yes, you can substitute rum with other types of alcohol like vodka or a flavored liqueur. Keep in mind that the flavor will change based on what you use.

How long does it typically take for the mixture to freeze?

The freezing time can vary depending on your freezer, but it generally takes about 4-6 hours to become slushy. For best results, freeze overnight.

Can I make this slush in advance?

Yes, this slush can be made several days in advance. Just remember to take it out of the freezer ahead of time to thaw slightly before serving.

How can I serve this for a party?

Serve in glasses with a spoon or scoop, and provide straws for drinking the melted portion. It's a fun and refreshing option for parties or gatherings.

What's the best way to thaw the slush before serving?

Place the container in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours before serving, or leave it at room temperature for about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on how slushy you want it.

Can I add fruit or other flavors to this slush?

Yes, you can add fruit like berries, lemon or lime slices, or mint for added flavor and garnish.

How should I store any leftovers?

Store any leftovers in the freezer. It can be re-frozen and thawed again for later use.

Can I use fresh lemonade instead of concentrate?

Lemonade concentrate is just that, concentrated. You would have to make homemade lemonade that had a very concentrated lemon flavor (basically undrinkable without diluting). Store-bought lemonade won't work.

  1. Guest Foodie REVIEW:

Thank you to the other reviewer for the suggestion of putting this in smaller bags and adding them as needed. That worked great for our purposes since we were outside and this was going to get warm rather quickly even using an insulated punch bowl.

  2. Jcortezc REVIEW:

Easy and delicious. Best part is I was able to prepare ahead and freeze in zip lock bags. When the bowl got low, just take bag from freezer and pop it in the bowl.

  3. Guest Foodie REVIEW:

This is great! I used Captain Morgan's Key Lime Rum....and it was great. Caution, It takes a long time to freeze.
