The sweet raspberry vanilla combo is sure to be a hit among the kids, and the adults can add a good splash of white rum in the mix for a boozy version.

serves/makes:

ready in:
  under 30 minutes

ingredients

3 1/2 gallons raspberry sherbet
2 1/2 quarts vanilla ice cream
2 quarts cranberry juice cocktail, well chilled
2 quarts lemon-lime carbonated beverage or ginger ale, well chilled

directions

Soften the sherbet and ice cream to the point they are soft and creamy but not completely melted. Add them to a punch bowl. Slowly stir in half of the cranberry cocktail and mix well. Add the remaining cranberry cocktail and mix.

If not serving immediately, chill until ready. When ready to serve, slowly stir in the carbonated beverage.

Hint: if you want to keep this punch colder while serving, freeze extra cranberry cocktail in ice cube trays and add that to the punch as needed.

recipe tips

Use well chilled cranberry juice cocktail and lemon-lime soda to keep the punch cold without having to water it down with ice.

Serve the punch immediately after adding the carbonated beverage to keep the fizz.

Adjust the ratio of sherbet and ice cream to taste.

Serve the punch in clear cups to showcase the colorful mixture.

Garnish the punch with fresh mint leaves for a pop of color.

Do not stir too much once the soda is added to maintain its carbonation.

Experiment with different flavors of sherbet and ice cream to create different flavor combos.

common recipe questions

What if I can't find raspberry sherbet?

If raspberry sherbet is unavailable, you can substitute it with raspberry sorbet for a similar flavor or use another fruity sherbet like strawberry.

Can I use another type of ice cream?

You can use any flavor of ice cream, although vanilla pairs best with the other ingredients. Try using fruit-flavored ice creams for a different twist.

What can I substitute for cranberry cocktail?

You can use cranberry juice mixed with a little sugar or honey to mimic the sweetness and flavor of cranberry cocktail. Alternatively, pomegranate juice can also work well.

How do I make this punch ahead of time?

Unfortunately, this punch works best made at or shortly before serving time. Otherwise, the ice cream and sherbet will melt too much (it won't be as creamy) and the lemon-lime soda will lose its fizz.

Can I use diet or low-calorie versions of the ingredients?

You can use diet or low-calorie cranberry juice cocktail and lemon-lime sodas or sugar-free ice cream to reduce calories in the punch without significantly affecting the flavor.

How long does the punch stay good in the fridge?

Once mixed, the punch is best served immediately but can last in the refrigerator for about 2-3 hours. It's best not to store it for longer since the carbonation will dissipate.

Can I freeze cran-raspberry punch?

Freezing the punch is not recommended as the texture will change and it will lose the carbonation. However, you can freeze cranberry cocktail in ice cube trays as suggested to maintain some parts of the punch.

What if the punch is too sweet?

If the punch is too sweet, you can balance it by adding more lemon-lime soda or an additional splash of cranberry juice to reduce the sweetness.

tools needed

Punch Bowl: A large punch bowl for combining and serving the cran-raspberry punch. It should be large enough to hold the combined ingredients without overflowing.

Spoon or Ladle: A long-handled spoon or ladle is needed for stirring the ingredients together in the punch bowl after adding the sherbet, ice cream, and beverages.

Ice Cube Trays (Optional): For freezing extra cranberry cocktail into ice cubes, which can be added to the punch to keep it cold without diluting the flavor.

what goes with it?

Fruit Salad: A colorful fruit salad featuring berries, citrus, and melon would add a fresh and light touch.

Mini Desserts: Small tarts or bite-sized desserts filled with fruit or cream can add a touch of elegance to your spread.

Cheese and Charcuterie Board: A selection of soft cheeses like brie or goat cheese, along with some salty prosciutto and savory crackers, would create a nice contrast to the sweet punch.

Cocktail Skewers: Threaded cubes of cheese, grapes, and cherries make for fun, handheld snacks that will pair nicely with the punch. They're visually pleasing and offer different textures and flavors to nibble on while sipping.

Savory Puff Pastry Bites: Mini pastries filled with herbs, cheese, or vegetables provide a nice salty kick that contrasts nicely with the sweet punch.
