Packaged onion soup mix can add too much salt to some recipes. By making your own version at home you can control the sodium. Try using low-sodium beef bouillon granules in place of all or part of the regular kind, depending on what you are making with the mix. This will store in an airtight container for several months. One note, however, this recipe makes about 6 tablespoons. One envelope of Lipton Onion Soup Mix is only about 4 tbsp.

How much water should I add to make this into onion soup?

CDKitchen Staff Reply:
Use it like regular packaged soup mix, the directions on the Lipton box say to add one envelope to 4 cups of water for soup.

I make this and keep it on hand using low sodium beef boullon granules and it's a healthier version of the packaged stuff.

Very good! I made onion dip and everyone loved it. All the taste without the MSG.
