under 30 minutes
ingredients
4 ounces shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
4 ounces butter or margarine
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon dry mustard
16 slices bread, thick cut
Worcestershire sauce
directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Combine the cheese, butter, pepper and mustard in the top of a double boiler or in a heavy-bottomed saucepan. Heat until blended and smooth, stirring with a wire whisk.
Meanwhile, toast the slices of bread. Spread the cheese mixture on the toasted bread, cut into quarters, and bake until browned, about 5 minutes.
cook's notes
2 or 3 drops of Worcestershire sauce on each quarter toast will enhance the sharp "cheesy" flavor.

They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.
What's the secret ingredient in these cakes? Pudding mix. It not only adds flavor but it gives the cake a richer, creamier texture. No one will know your secret ingredient!
