These short ribs are just what the doctor ordered! Meaty ribs braised in Dr Pepper with ketchup, vinegar, and Worcestershire for a meal with some real pop to it.

2 tablespoons shortening
5 pounds short ribs
1 1/2 cup Dr Pepper (not diet)
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup vinegar
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 teaspoons chili powder
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Heat the shortening in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the short ribs and cook on all sides, turning frequently, until well browned. Remove the short ribs from the skillet and place in a large casserole dish.
In a saucepan, combine the Dr Pepper, ketchup, vinegar, salt, pepper, chili powder, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring frequently.
Pour the sauce evenly over the ribs. Place the ribs in the oven and bake at 350 degrees F for 2 hours or until tender. Turn the ribs once or twice during the cooking time.

A can of cream of mushroom soup can be a real dinner saver. It works great in casseroles and can turn into a sauce or gravy in a pinch.
Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

Wonderful recipe! I love short ribs and the dr pepper sauce was divine. Mine wasn't greasy at all - browning them releases a lot of the fat that is often on short ribs (also try to pick really meaty ones). The dr pepper makes a great glaze with the ketchup. It's very tasty and tangy. I've made tons of short ribs recipes but so far, I think this is tops!

Although tender, this recipe was very greasy.
