This iconic whiskey is a "Jack of all trades" when it comes to cooking. Toss it in some pasta, as a savory dipping sauce, and even bake it into something sweet.

Sauterne wine can be replaced with another sweet wine in this truly delicious flank steak recipe (that is not only tasty but simple to prepare)
1 1/2 pound flank steak
1/4 cup sauterne wine
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 clove garlic, minced
1 can (10.5 ounce size) beef broth
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
1 tablespoon instant minced onion
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons water
1/4 pound fresh mushrooms, sliced
Place steak in crockpot. Combine wine, soy sauce, garlic, broth, ketchup, mustard and onion; pour over steak. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours.
Dissolve cornstarch in water; stir into pot. Add mushrooms. Turn to high; cover and cook on high 20 to 30 minutes.

This recipe is one I will use again. It only needed 4 hours on high in my crock pot, though -- probably would have been fine in a little less time. And I created a roux with 2T of flour and 2T of butter instead of using corn starch to thicken the sauce. It was dreamy.

Very, very good, meat like butter. Was good shredded as a leftover sandwich. Easy. May need to season to taste more or less, i used less sodium based products. Will make again and i bet lean piece of roast would work too. We used the leftover gravy on meatloaf the next day. No browning or real prep, just dump it in according to recipe.
