An easy way to dress up a package of ramen noodles. Shrimp and ramen are coated in a rich garlic butter sauce for a quick meal ready in 10 minutes.
4 tablespoons butter
1/4 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined, tail on if desired
1 clove garlic, minced
1 package ramen noodles (omit the seasoning packet)
coarsely ground black pepper, to taste
chopped green onions
Prepare the ramen noodles, without the seasoning packet, as directed on the package. Drain well.
Meanwhile, melt the butter in a medium skillet over medium heat (do not let the butter burn). Add the shrimp and garlic. Cook, stirring frequently, until the shrimp turn opaque (3-4 minutes).
Add the ramen to the skillet and toss to coat the noodles in the butter sauce.
Remove the noodles, shrimp, and sauce to an individual serving dish. Sprinkle with black pepper and green onions. Serve immediately.
Add a splash of white wine or chicken broth to the sauce.
If using frozen shrimp, make sure to thaw them completely before using to prevent excess water in the dish.
To prevent the noodles from sticking together, toss them in a little olive oil before adding to the skillet.
If desired, sprinkle some of the ramen seasoning packet in the butter sauce.
Using medium to large sized shrimp works best for this recipe but you can use smaller shrimp if desired. Or, you can use larger shrimp and cut them up.
You can substitute the shrimp with chicken, other seafood like scallops, tofu, or even just vegetables for a different flavor.
You can use any type of noodles you prefer, such as spaghetti, rice noodles, or even zucchini noodles for a low-carb option. Ramen noodles cook quickly making them ideal for this simple dish.
To add some heat to the dish, you can add crushed red pepper flakes or a dash of sriracha while cooking the shrimp.
Add some sauteed bell peppers, snap peas, or even mushrooms for added texture and flavor.
While this dish is best served fresh, you can prep the ingredients ahead of time and quickly cook everything when ready to eat.
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently in the microwave or on the stovetop.
Yes, let cool then store in an airtight container for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge then reheat gently on the stovetop or in the microwave. The noodles may be a little softer after freezing.
Large Skillet: For cooking the shrimp and garlic in the butter sauce. Make sure it's large enough to accommodate the ramen noodles as well.
Stirring Utensil: A utensil such as a spoon, spatula, or chopsticks for stirring the shrimp and garlic in the skillet.
Colander: For draining the cooked ramen noodles after boiling.
Chopping Board and Knife: For mincing the garlic and chopping the green onions.
Stove: To cook the shrimp and garlic in the butter sauce. It's hard to cook without a stove, so make sure you have one or a stand-alone burner.
Garlic Bread: because you can never have too much garlic in your life (or on your breath) - the buttery goodness will complement the rich garlic butter sauce on the shrimp and ramen.
Spicy Sriracha: give your shrimp and ramen a little kick with some spicy sriracha drizzled over the ramen.
Crispy Tofu: Consider adding crispy tofu cubes to your shrimp ramen for a textural contrast. The tofu will soak up the garlic butter sauce.
Wine Pairings
Sauvignon Blanc: The crisp, citrusy snap of a good Sauvignon Blanc will cut through the buttery richness of the dish like a ninja with a zesty lemon in hand.
Chenin Blanc: Imagine a wine that's both as playful as it is serious, balancing the act of rich and savory with a touch of sweet apple and pear notes.
Gruner Veltliner: Here's a wine that knows how to handle garlic and isn't afraid to show it. It brings a zingy acidity to the table, perfect for slicing through the richness, while its peppery notes will make that black pepper on top pop.
Other Alcohol Pairings
Sake: Why not keep it in the ramen's realm of origin and sip on a light, slightly floral sake? It has the clean finesse needed to complement the shrimp and won't bat an eye at the garlic.
Gin and Tonic: A bit unconventional, but think about it - the botanicals in gin can mirror the herbaceousness of green onions, and the tonic's bitterness will reset your palate after each garlicky, buttery bite.
Wheat Beer: A nice, easy-going wheat beer with light citrus notes and slight creaminess is a perfect pairing.
Non-Alcoholic Pairings
Sparkling Water with Lemon: Bubbly water with a squeeze of lemon offers a refreshing zip to cleanse your palate, balancing the dish's richness without drowning out any flavors.
Green Tea: Earthy and subtly sweet, green tea can be a grounding force against the rich flavors of garlic butter and shrimp.
Ginger Ale: For something with a little more pizzazz, ginger ale brings sweetness and a zingy bite that can stand up to the bold flavors in the dish. Plus, the ginger can add a nice background note that complements both shrimp and garlic nicely.

Incredibly simple! I could see this done with some of the seasoning packet sprinkled into the butter too. Will try that next time (not beef but using chicken or shrimp or hot and sour ramen)
