Not to be confused with evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk is very sweet (and very sticky) and used primarily in desserts.

These scones are soft, fluffy, and full of chocolate chips that add a delicious sweetness to the overall flavor. They are easy to make with the help of baking mix as an ingredient.
2 cups Bisquick or Jiffy baking mix
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons butter, softened
1/4 cup half and half
1/3 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 egg, lightly beaten
granulated sugar, optional
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.
Combine the baking mix and brown sugar in a mixing bowl. Mix well with a fork. Add the butter and cut into the flour mixture using a pastry blender until it resembles coarse sand.
Stir the half and half, chocolate chips, and egg into the flour mixture and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface. Roll the dough out to a 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with a 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter. Place the scones on an ungreased baking sheet. Sprinkle lightly with sugar.
Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake at 450 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned.
Serve warm. Or, let cool and store in an airtight container.
Avoid overmixing the dough once the wet ingredients are added or the scones may turn out dry and dense.
If you prefer a sweeter scone, sprinkle additional granulated sugar on top before baking.
Experiment with different flavors by adding citrus zest, spices, or extracts to the dough.
Baking mix is a pre-made mixture of flour, baking powder, salt, and sometimes other dry ingredients. It is used in this recipe to simplify the baking process and ensure consistent results.
You can use any brand of baking mix that is similar to Bisquick or Jiffy. Just be aware that different brands may have slightly different flavors and consistencies.
If you don't have half and half, you can mix equal parts of milk and heavy cream to create a substitute that will work well in this recipe.
You can use milk instead of half and half in this recipe. However, the scones may be slightly less rich and tender.
Cutting the butter into the flour creates a crumbly texture in the scones. This process coats the flour particles with fat, which helps to tenderize the final baked product.
You can add chopped nuts or dried fruit to the dough. Just be mindful of the overall moisture content of the dough. We would not recommend adding more than 1/4 cup of nuts or dried fruit.
You can freeze the scone dough after cutting it into shape. Simply place the unbaked scones on a baking sheet in the freezer until firm, then transfer them to a freezer-safe bag for longer storage.
Yes, they freeze very well. Make sure they are completely cooled after baking, then store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 4 months.
To reheat leftover scones, wrap them in foil and warm them in a 300-degree oven for 10-15 minutes. Alternatively, you can briefly microwave them until warmed through.
Bowl: For mixing together the baking mix, brown sugar, and other dry ingredients before adding the wet ingredients.
Fork: To mix together the dry ingredients.
Pastry Blender: To cut the butter into the dry ingredients, creating a crumbly texture essential for scones.
Measuring Cups: To accurately measure the ingredients.
Biscuit Cutter: For cutting the scone dough into uniform shapes before baking.
Baking Sheet: To hold the scones while they bake in the oven. No need to grease the baking sheet for this recipe.
Spiced Maple Syrup Drizzle: Drizzle spiced maple syrup over the warm chocolate chip scones for a sweet and spicy kick.
Bourbon Whipped Cream: Indulge in a dollop of bourbon-infused whipped cream on top of these chocolate chip scones. The boozy richness of the bourbon will perfectly complement the sweet chocolate chips in the scones.
Candied Bacon Crumbles: Sprinkle candied bacon crumbles over the warm chocolate chip scones for a salty-sweet flavor. The crispy, sweet bacon will add a crunchy texture and a savory contrast to the chocolatey goodness of the scones.

These scones were amazing! I made them for my family many times and they always begged for more when they were done! I actually made almost a drop cookie version instead of having to roll them out! They are delicious!
