Apple Sauce Brownies

ingredients
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup margarine or butter
2  eggs
1 cup regular or cinnamon apple sauce
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped nuts
  powdered sugar
  unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
directions
Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease 9-inch square pan. 
 In large bowl, combine brown sugar, margarine and eggs, mixing well. Stir in apple sauce and vanilla and blend thoroughly. 
 Stir in flour, 1/4 cup cocoa, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Mix well. Stir in nuts. 
 Bake at 350 degrees F for 25 to 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool. 
 Just before serving, use foil strips to make design with powdered sugar, cocoa and cinnamon.

I used 1 medium Granny Smith apple (grated) instead of the applesauce and used a muffin pan to make individual brownies. They came out very moist and are delicious!
